1969 Lotus Super Seven
Any Seven is a special car, whether from Lotus, Caterham, or Westfield. The elemental experience of an extremely lightweight car and basically nothing else makes for the ultimate driving experience. This one looks to have been nicely preserved, and should prove to hold value nicely – all at a more attractive purchase price than a new Caterham.
But look at the pictures carefully, and read the ad copy from the selling dealer. In a few places, the ad refers to the engine as a 289 – which Ford enthusiasts know as a small-block V8. Take a look at the under-bonnet photos..no V8 present..just what appears to be a Ford Kent crossflow four cylinder. While we alternatively dream and shudder to think what a twelve hundred pound Lotus would be like with the torque of a Windsor V8, this four is plenty. We have to guess that the dealer, better versed in American muscle, assumed the Lotus and a Tiger might have the same engine?
Still, this is a lovely 7, and we’d love to enjoy it as it should be driven.
It’s on eBay in Fort Wayne, Indiana for $25k or offer.
