Putting A Bunch Of SPORT In Sport Utility

1998 Saleen Explorer XP8

Steve Saleen got his start racing Mustangs, and eventually built a business selling highly modified Mustangs. When the Explorer SUV became available in the mid ’90s with the Mustang’s 302 V8, it was only natural to start throwing go-fast parts on the family hauler.

This is the prototype for the XP8 Explorer – the one that was used by many of the magazines to test the new beast.

It’s been used as it should – with over 100k on the odometer, it’s certainly not been pampered. But it still looks magnificent. Especially shocking is the original window sticker – it’s hard to imagine an Explorer selling for $50k twenty years ago, but with all of the work that went into this special SUV, we can see it.

It’s on eBay in Las Vegas with reserve not yet met.
