1986 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia
Many people have the dream of loading up a Volkswagen Microbus or Vanagon, and driving around the country for adventure. Problem is, the standard VW four cylinder in these vans is woefully inadequate at modern highway speeds – forget about trying to drive up into the mountains with any sort of reasonable pace.
Industrious companies have fixed that problem, by adapting the flat four cylinders out of modern Subarus to fit in the VW engine bay. This one has 170hp – plenty to keep up with traffic – and is a rare Syncro 4WD model, with the pop-up Westfalia camper conversion. It’s basically the ideal one-or-two person camper.
We love the deep grey paint, matched with blacked-out trim and the handsome 16″ steel wheels. Everything just looks right.
It’s on eBay in Colorado for $70k or offer.
