1971 BMW 2002
The stickers are a bit much. While they resemble something that might be found on a period race car, they are entirely too clean to match the rough matte finish of the paint. We’d have to see if the vinyl would come off without affecting the paint beneath.
Otherwise, we don’t know that we’d change a thing. As it sits, this 2002 is clearly NOT a show car, but a fun weekend driver. And that’s exactly how we’d use it. It’s desireable early car with the round taillights – a “roundie” – wearing the thin early rear bumper, and no front bumper. The wheels might be a bit modern and large, but they look good, and should be wide enough to wear modern sticky rubber.
This car shows the range of cars we love here at Car of the Day. While perfectly preserved concours queens are lovely, sometimes we just want a nice fun driver’s car, no matter how imperfect it is.
It’s on eBay in New York City with reserve not yet met.
