1990 Avanti Touring Sedan
The Avanti is one unusual car. Originally released in 1962 by the dying Studebaker, it went on to be built by various owners in many different locations until the early 2000s. In the late ’80s, ownership and production moved to Youngstown, Ohio, where a four-door sedan replaced the original coupe body. Read Aaron Severson’s excellent history of the star-crossed Avanti here.
The styling of the four-door is polarizing at best – in Severson’s account, he recalled encountering the lengthened sedan: “The author has seen only one of the Touring Sedans in the wild, on a street in Beverly Hills in the late nineties, and immediately recoiled in horror.” Still, this is well preserved, and surely there are a few out there who love these. With contemporary Caprice running gear, it should be easy to keep going inexpensively.
It’s on eBay in Florida with reserve not yet met.
