Leave It As Is? Or Build Another Rally Replica?

1999 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS

There seem to be too few Impreza 2.5RSes left. They’ve either been thrashed into oblivion, modified beyond recognition, or rusted to nothing. The US never got the WRX turbocharged engine in this first-generation (GC8) chassis, though many tuners have corrected that on their own. It’s arguably the best looking of all the Imprezas, and the bodystyle┬ámost associated with the iconic rally driver Colin McRae.

Our vote? Restore this to as new. The 2.5RS is a fun car to drive even without turbocharged power, and there are enough overbuilt cars out there. A clean, stock car will always turn heads. It needs some body work, but nothing that should be too challenging.

That front bumper has the perfect amount of 90’s fast and furious about it for my inner 8 year old to think “damn that car must be fast”.

Idk, if I bought it the temptation to dump an EJ 205 crate motor in there would be very, very strong. Modification would be minimal and the smile that it would put on my face once it spooled up might be worth sacrificing the car’s originality.
