Restored To Better-Than-New Condition

1961 Austin-Healey Sprite

Not all of the COTD team have any specific memories of wandering around a BMC dealership in the early ’60s, but from period photos, we’d have to imagine this particular Sprite might be a bit out of place. We picture plenty of brightly-painted sports cars – that is, when we dream in color, compared to the mostly black-and-white photographs that fill our books – but none of the paintwork has the deep shine that is found on this beauty. Nearly everything has steel wheels, too, not the stunning chrome wires fitted here.

It seems that just a few years ago, a nice Bugeye/Frogeye Sprite might fetch $8k on a good day. There were always others that could easily be restored, but no one restored them because they were so cheap. Those days may be over.

It’s on eBay in St. Louis for $26k or offer.1961 Austin-Healey Sprite engine 1961 Austin-Healey Sprite green rear quarter 1961 Austin-Healey Sprite interior
