1973 Datsun 1200
Sunny, of course, was the home-market name for this Datsun 1200, which was at once the most fuel-efficient and least expensive car for sale in America when new. Besides being incredibly thrifty, the 1200 proved to be a fun-to-drive compact, and even an excellent racer.
Unfortunately, rust-proofing wasn’t a priority back then, and most of these have been recycled a few times by now, so seeing one this clean is remarkable. It’s been thoroughly restored, and looks absolutely perfect. Mild upgrades like the downdraft Weber carb and the aluminum radiator are great for reliability, though we’d love to see a pair of sidedraft carbs with fat chokes and velocity stacks for a bit of extra power. The ARE Libre alloys are a perfect choice, too.
It’s on eBay in California for $9500 or offer.
