1983 Renault R5 Turbo....... or is it?
From a few feet away, this is a very convincing replica of the Renault R5 Turbo, the company’s revolutionary and now iconic 1980’s rally car and uberwild street car.
But a glimpse through the front grille ruins it. There shouldn’t be an engine there. The three-lug wheels are another giveaway.
Forget the power-induced oversteer on this one. This is basically a custom body kit on a standard front wheel drive Renault 5 (a.k.a. LeCar in America). The flares and big wheels are strictly for show. And no wonder- the mid-engine cars were a massive engineering project for Renault, designed for FIA rallying, not just a simple front-to-back “engine swap.”
It’s on eBay in Mexico.
