1979 Hogan/Holbert HR-001

In the late ’70s, the SCCA revived the legendary Can-Am series name for cars built atop the Formula 5000 racers, but with a closed body. This “Center-Seat” Can-Am era wasn’t quite as fast as the cars from the 60’s, as rules restricted builders from the 1000+ horsepower insanity of the old days, but crafty engineers built some very interesting cars.

This car, built by renowned engineer Lee Dykstra and Porsche legend Al Holbert, was a one-off that apparently was quick, but never fully sorted out. It’s been expertly restored, and looks magnificent. This era of racer is becoming more respected in vintage events, and should prove quite quick.

It’s on eBay in Florida with reserve not yet met.
