Lil’ Ole’ Yeller: 1980 Austin Mini Clubman

Lil’ Ole’ Yeller: 1980 Austin Mini Clubman

You’ll never see another one like it on the road. Well, obviously, since there aren’t that many OG Minis rolling around the colonies. But there are even fewer with the later Clubman grille like this example, as the original “bulldog” -style nose is infinitely more popular worldwide. This car looks to have been nicely restored, and uprated with catalogs of new, go-fast parts.

The over-bored 1275 A-series (now a massive 1330cc) should have plenty of grunt, put ably to the ground via a rebuilt gearbox with lightened flywheel. This should be noticeably quicker than a factory Cooper. The eye-catching yellow paint is definitely not a factory hue, but it looks brilliant. We’d love to take this for a spin through the twisties.

It’s on eBay for $20,500 on Long Island. Fly into LaGuardia, and enjoy the commute back through Manhattan in one of the few cars sized properly for the streets.
