There just isn’t another sports car as pure as an original Lotus Elan. These tiny, lightweight cars make a Miata look huge in comparison. (Kind of like a real Mini compared to a “new” Mini.)
That being said, the original sheetmetal wishbone structure under the Elan’s fiberglass body was relatively fragile. That’s why UK supplier Spydercars developed a spaceframe to replace the original Elan chassis, even the newest of which are 40 years old. Spyder also offers optional side protection bars and a roll bar that ties into the chassis, certainly improving the safety of this dynamic little car.
This RHD Elan has all the good Spyder bits, a rebuilt engine, and needs only a few details completed before it’s ready for paint.
